Sat 19th April: Division 1 West

Fleetdown Utd 0

Bromleians Sports 4
S.Shippey (2)
A.Keroma
M.Addo

Both sides went into this game off the back of disappointing results.

Fleetdown have had a truly miserable season with wins over Samuel Montague & Metrogas their only high points of the season so far.

Bromleians lost in mid-week 1-0 away to Belvedere and dropped points at lowly Bridon Ropes after a 2-2 draw.

The game sprung into life on 9 Minutes when Keroma and Shippey played a neat one/two on the edge of the Fleetdown box and Shippey cleverly lobbed the ball over the oncoming keeper. 0-1.

Steve McKenzie wasted a great chance for number 2, when his mazy run ended with him cutting the ball back with no one there and it seemed he didn't spot both Bromleians forwards waiting for a simple pass across goal.

It was 0-2 on 21 minutes when a channelled ball by Dean Walker was picked up by Shippey who chipped the ball over the defender's head perfectly into the path of the on rushing Keroma who buries a low volley into the bottom corner of the net. That was Keroma's 17th Goal of the campaign.

Now you would have thought at this point it was a queue to 'open the floodgates' however Fleetdown to their credit kept battling and almost pulled a goal back on 36 minutes. An in swinging ball wasn't cleared by centre half Banks and the ball ping ponged around in the box before a Fleetdown forward finally got a shot in, only for it to be dubiously guided around the post by the Bromlieans Keeper and right back. The shout for a penalty seemed a good one to me?

H/T 0-2.

In the second half Bromlieans must have been told kill the game off early because that's exactly what they did. A great ball from Walker to Keroma sent the marksman flying down the left. He out paced his marker and played simple ball across the box for a simple tap in for his strike partner Shippey. That was Shippey's 8th Goal in 8 Games since arriving at the club in January. 0-3.

It was almost 0-4 minutes later when Shippey & Keroma played a good one-two in the box only for the Fleetdown defender to bizarrely catch the ball? Penalty.

Shippey stepped up looking to complete his hat trick, but the young Fleetdown Keeper fantastically tipped his powerful curled effort around the post.

However from the resulting corner it was 0-4.

Dan Clifton swung in the corner and the ball was cleared to edge of the box, but only as far as Michael Adoo was slammed the ball into the top left hand corner of the goal for a great finish.

Everyone was baffled by the Bromleians celebrations as they all jumped on Adoo, including Management who ran a country mile join in! But it was all in good spirit as I found out later the reasoning behind it. It was Adoo's first goal in 3 years apparently? Hence the Michael Essien type celebrations!!

Another defeat for Fleetdown and 1 more game to go in what must seem a very long campaign, and they must surely be already building for life in Division 2.

For Bromleians the win moves them up to 6th in the table but can now realistically only finish at highest in 4th. It will be looked upon as a disappointing campaign for the Broms who seem to come close season after season 4th/3rd/6th? but are finding it difficult to take that next step up into the Premier league.

On the bright side, if they keep hold of Key players such as their Keeper, Walker, Banks, Commerford, Clifton, and of course Keroma & Shippey they will have nucleus to build around them a team that may finally see the Broms into the promised land this time next year!
